Many schools have vision testing programs. The results of the test are then sent to the parents along with the advice to consult a vision specialist. The problem with this is that the specialist will routinely prescribe minus lenses for the nearsighted children. Such lenses do not remove the cause. They do just the opposite by increasing the rate of myopia progression.

We urge schools to send the following document to all parents and include it with the test results.

Unless parents take the initiative, they will not receive preventive treatment. So we also urge parents to demand that their vision specialist read this website and follow those guidelines.
